Take Your Meds

Sofra Bakery & Cafe Opens

so so good!

It’s not just French women; it’s the whole damn Mediterranean seaboard. They booze hard, smoke like chimneys, and eat whatever they fancy, yet they don’t get fat.

We’ve got our own version of the Mediterranean diet. We call it Sofra.

Oleana’s Ana Sortun and Maura Kilpatrick open their specialty bakery and cafe today, serving up the good (whipped feta with sweet peppers, mezze, and hummus), the crazy good (orange blossom-glazed morning buns), and the downright awesome (earthquake cookies by the package).

Start your day with a Turkish breakfast (soft-boiled eggs with tomato, olives, cucumber, feta, fig, honey, and yogurt) or scoop up flatbreads (made in-house on a Lebanese saj griddle) stuffed with chickpea and za’atar spices for lunch.

An adjacent wine shop from biodynamic wine importer Violette is also in the works.

Until then, you might want to reconsider smoking.
