Whether gazing out a window or coveting a coworker’s Swingline stapler, the grass (or lack thereof) always looks greener on the other side of your work space.

Bead crochet artist Andrea Garr felt similar pangs every time she looked out of her tiny SoWa studio, so she acted swiftly and bought a larger space across the street to house her gallery/craft shop, Bead + Fiber.

The space now brims with materials and handmade goods (many by local designers) and hosts classes with expert artisans (learn how to make earrings or an intricate fiber-rug handbag).

Handsewn Haitian voodoo flags oversee a colorful den of winter-friendly goods like recycled-sweater scarves, chunky felt necklaces, and loose beads that Garr amassed from her world travels.
