Searching for the Silver Lining
“The Silver Linings Playbook,” by Matthew Quick

Annoying signs fall is upon us: turning leaves, UPenn students, and (yee-har) Eagles fans.
Matthew Quick’s debut novel, The Silver Linings Playbook, tells the story of football fan Pat Peoples’s bittersweet yet comic return to reality after a long stay in a mental hospital.
Upon being released, Pat dedicates his life to winning back his estranged wife, as his family and therapist help him readjust to the outside world.
Through fanatical devotion to Eagles games, working out, and entering a dance competition with his depressed neighbor Tiffany, Pat remembers what led him to the institution in the first place and begins to figure out how to live for himself again.
Now there’s a silver (and green) lining.
