Glass Act

BellJar Opens

saved by the belljar!

War, the climate crisis, adult acne.

It’s all so depressing until you get to BellJar, an enchanting new boutique in the Mission dedicated to gorgeous little things.

Mounted animal heads and secret garden-inspired home trinkets create a magical woodland theme throughout the space. Vintage-inspired Swedish wallpaper and a claw-foot tub filled with moss and luxurious bath products outfit the apothecary room.

Modern bohos rejoice over flea market finds from around the world and heaps of costume jewelry that looks like it was scored at a Grey Gardens fire sale. Spirits and wardrobes get a lift with select pieces (Jovovich-Hawk, Eskell, and Mike & Chris). Do unto others with unique gifts like handmade pillows by Dolin O’Shea and McSweeney’s books.

The intimate gallery in back hosts a new local artist every month. First up: photographer Jen Siska.

Happy happy, joy joy.

BellJar, 3187 16th Street, between Guerrero and Valencia Streets (415-626-1749). Grand opening, Saturday, March 15, 6-11 p.m. R.S.V.P. to belljarsf@gmail.com.
