Record Time

Som Records

You’ve been wearing Vans since they were in fashion the first time, still write letters that require pen and paper, and can’t wrap your head around a Willy Wonka played by anyone but Gene Wilder.

Face it, dear: You’re utterly old school.

Which is why you’ll feel at home at Som Records, the new charmingly low-tech shop overseen by DJ impresario and former Crooked Beat Records co-owner Neal Becton. A vinyl haven specializing in rare jazz and soul LPs, Brazilian sounds, and hard-to-find rock, a majority of the stock is used.  Feel free to give the records a spin on one of the in-store turntables before making it your own.

You’ll also find the latest from the likes of Belle and Sebastian, Jenny Lewis with the Watson Twins, and Mogwai. And don’t miss the extensive collection of vintage posters and show memorabilia from Becton’s personal stash.

It’s all in perfect tune.

With nary an MP3 in sight.

Som Records, 1843 14th Street NW, between S and T Streets (202-328-3345).
