A Closet in Your Monster

Furniture by Art Drauglis

Home furnishings aren’t meant to be scary.

But if you’re not careful, even the coolest home can be overrun by cheap particle board.

Fight back with the help of local woodworker Art Drauglis, who builds furniture that’s anything but ordinary. Creating eye-popping shapes that command attention, Drauglis draws from his history as an assistant tech director for local theaters.

Standouts are his groovy monster pieces, which incorporate jagged shapes and hues into cabinets that could very well come to life to duet with Lumiere. His less animated works often showcase the wood’s natural character (like the semiunfinished shelves and benches). With a penchant for conservation, Drauglis whittles small objects such as candleholders and chopsticks from scraps, and turns chips into mulch.

So the next time there’s a particle-board meeting, unleash a monster.
